Principal
Nagy R. Bakhoum, Architect
Nagy R. Bakhoum is a licensed architect in California and the principal of Obelisk Architects, a firm he founded in 1997 in Torrance. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1990.
Before establishing Obelisk Architects, Nagy gained hands-on experience in the construction industry and worked on high-end residential and commercial projects in Santa Barbara. This practical background has been instrumental in shaping his comprehensive understanding of building systems and design integration.
Under his leadership, Obelisk Architects has completed over 300 projects, specializing in timeless architecture inspired by historical precedents. The firm focuses on high-end residential and commercial designs, including retail, ecclesiastical, and specialty projects.
In addition to his architectural practice, Nagy has been a Professor of Architecture in the Los Angeles Community College District for over 15 years. He has co-authored the 4th, 5th, and 6th editions of The Professional Practice of Architectural Working Drawings, a widely used textbook in architectural education.
Nagy is also a member of the Architectural and Landscape Review Committee for Bel Air Crest in Beverly Hills, contributing to the community's design standards.
Known for his diplomacy and effective communication, Nagy is deeply involved in client interactions, ensuring personalized service throughout the design process.
Project Administrator
Natalie K. Bakhoum
Natalie Bakhoum received a Masters of Administration from the University of La Verne in 1996. She also received a Bachelors of Liberal Arts from Westmont College in 1991. She gained practical experience while working with the Torrance Unified School District and the Marymount College Summer School program. She developed the multi-campus South Bay summer school program where she hired staff and developed requirements to provide a balanced environment.
Natalie established a company that consults with city planning and building departments to provide radius notification services and Title 24 energy conservation regulatory requirements. She brings to Obelisk a merger of her company and her administrative and managerial skills in order to assist in keeping your project schedule and proper staffing on track. Among her many endeavors perhaps her favorite is visiting cultures and communities around the globe.
Associate, Project Manager
Mercy Girala-Tye
Mercy Girala-Tye earned a Bachelor’s of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University at Pomona in 1991. Not long after, Mercy joined Obelisk Architects and continues to have a strong background in high-end residential, multi-family and estate homes.
Mercy manages projects, designs and prepares construction documents, as well as develops graphic presentations. In addition to her drafting abilities and talents in architecture she is also quite amazing at dancing the salsa.
Designer, CAD Specialist
Daniel Muguia
Daniel Muguia is an Architectural graduate of Los Angeles Harbor College, and joined our firm in 2019. His goal is to get a Bachelor’s of Architecture Degree at Woodbury University. Daniel provides project design support and drawing preparation. His work has included the preparation of construction documents using AutoCAD, Revit, Photo Shop, permit processing, and renderings for high-end residential projects and commercial projects.
Daniel manages projects, designs and prepares construction documents, as well as develops graphic presentations. In addition to his drafting abilities and talents in architecture he is fond of all that Southern California has to offer.
